One thing that happens to far too many of our soldiers is that they return from active duty and those that have promised to love, cherish, and wait for them have moved on. Many stay and wait for their soldier to return and behave like they did before they left for war. Being Lance shares the tale of Lance. A man who lives with survivors guilt and has a hard time coping with the fact that civilians are oblivious to the things he goes through on a daily basis. His struggles are real and overwhelming to the point that he’s ready and willing to end his life to end his night terrors. Suddenly there’s a knock on the door. He can’t pull the trigger because now there will be a witness. As he cracks open the door he is pleasantly surprised to see her standing there. Not wanting her to see the condition of his life inside the house, he agrees to go for a walk with her. One that continues until he finds himself again. Along the way, he unknowingly meets others caught in the moments they too are contemplating suicide. His words somehow reach them and cause them to consider another option. For some, they are the ones that return to families that they abandoned. For others, they learn how to become a new person full of hope and dreams vs. booze and tormenting thoughts. It’s not an easy road to travel. That’s one thing Lance knows all to well. It is a road worth traveling to become who a person is meant to be in the aftermath of the trauma of war and lost love.
